Ingleside cancer benefit to help ailing Holiday Hills man
Editor's note: This story was updated to correct Michael Ghilardi's hometown. He is from Holiday Hills, not Richmond.
A benefit is set for Saturday, Jan. 28, in Ingleside to help a Holiday Hills man battling cancer.
The Michael Ghilardi Liver Cancer Benefit is at 3 p.m. at The Dwight House, 35366 N. Route 12. It will feature music, raffles, 50-50 drawings and food. The voluntary donation is $5 at the door.
The event is organized by Greg Thurow, Ghilardi's cousin, who said the fundraiser is organized to help with home expenses such as utility payments.
Thurow said Ghilardi's liver cancer was confirmed in November 2011. He said doctors have said Ghilardi's only chance for survival is a liver transplant. Ghilardi, a car salesman, has been unable to work since early November, his cousin said.
The fundraiser will feature prizes sponsored by local music stores, motorcycle dealers and other merchants.
Music will be provided by Red Eye Express, Amethyst, and Razin Kane, as well as a two-hour open jam.
A bank account is set up for people who would like to help but cannot attend the fundraiser. Checks can be made payable to the Michael Ghilardi Cancer Benefit Fund c/o McHenry Savings Bank, P.O. Box 143 Richmond, IL 60071.
