Moffat paces Stevenson's triumph
Kari Moffat scored a game-high 11 points, Stevenson's girls basketball team pitched a third-quarter shutout, and the Patriots defeated visiting Mundelein 49-13 Thursday night.
The victory allowed Stevenson (14-5, 5-1) to maintain sole possession of first place in the North Suburban Lake Division.
Alex Elzinga and Katie Batman added 8 and 7 points, respectively, for Stevenson, which jumped out to a 15-2 lead after one quarter. Eleven Patriots scored.
"It's been an unusual week," Patriots coach Tom Dineen said. "I gave them some time off because it's finals week. I wasn't sure how we would come out, but we came out with a lot of energy and set the tone early. It was a team effort. I was very pleased."
Up 28-7 at halftime, Stevenson outscored Mundelein 13-0 in the third quarter.
Mundelein (8-12, 1-5) got 5 points from freshman Jessica Schultz.
Libertyville 43, Lake Zurich 38: The visiting Wildcats overcame a 23-19 halftime deficit to win the North Suburban Lake contest.
Alex Haley scored 12 points and Kerry Risley added 9 for Libertyville (14-4, 5-2), which won for the eighth time in its last nine games.
Lake Zurich (12-8, 4-4) scored only 3 points in the third quarter and trailed 27-26 entering the fourth. Stephanie Schmid netted 12 of her game-high 16 points thanks to four 3-pointers. The Bears also got 8 points apiece from Katherine Anderson (two 3s) and Cathryne Spear.
Vernon Hills 69, Round Lake 25: Sydney Smith scored 18 points and grabbed 6 rebounds, as the Cougars cruised, improving to 15-2 and 7-0 in the North Suburban Prairie Division.
Meri Bennett-Swanson added 12 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocks, while Lauren Webb had 11 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals for Vernon Hills. The Cougars led only 14-11 after one quarter before outscoring the hosts 23-4 in the second and 23-5 in the third.
Round Lake (4-16, 0-7) was led by Aaliyah Chastang with 9 points (one 3-pointer) and Shawna Edens with 6 (two 3s).
