Oberweis leads money race in Senate Dist. 25

In the three-way race for the Republican nomination for state Senate District 25, Jim Oberweis of Sugar Grove seems to be outpacing his opponents in collecting money.

Campaign finance reports filed with the state show Oberweis’ committee had $28,550 at the end of the third quarter Sept. 30, and collected $70,000 in contributions of over $1,000 since then. Contributions less than $1,000 will be included in the next quarterly report.

Oberweis has sought office before, including runs for governor and Congress.

David Richmond, who lives near Elburn, started his campaign with $2,000 according to his statement of organization, has loaned himself $18,970.21 since then, and received $5,000 from Liberty Political Action Committee.

Richmond now owes himself $27,071.28 for loans made going back to his unsuccessful attempt in 2008 to be elected representative of the state House 50th District race. Richmond is the Blackberry Township supervisor.

He spent $10,988.20 as of Sept. 30.

Fourth-quarter reports are not due until Jan. 17.

Richard Slocum’s campaign committee started off with $2,972.12. He has since received $1,000 from a Philip Slocum of Wheaton, and $2,500 from an Alan Raboine of Lee. Slocum lives in Sugar Grove.

On the Democratic side, Steven L. Hunter of Geneva started his campaign with no money, and lists no contributions of $1,000 or more. Corinne Pierog of St. Charles started with $33.49, and also lists no $1,000-plus contributions.
