Rolling Meadows streak reaches 12
After winning the championship of the Lady Mustangs Classic at Mundelein High School two weeks ago, Rolling Meadows began its quest for another tourney championship on Wednesday.
The Mustangs won their opening game of the Season's End Tournament with a 69-36 victory over Oak Park-River Forest.
Sophomore Jackie Kemph scored 12 of her team's 27 points in the second quarter when Rolling Meadows broke away from OP-RF at Fenton High School in Bensenville.
Kemph finished with a game-high 23 points, with 8 field goals and 7-of-9 shooting from the foul line.
Sophomore Alexis Glasgow made 3 3-pointers and finished with 20 points for the Mustangs (14-3), who've won 12 straight, a streak that dates to Nov. 29.
"Tuesday night (a 42-36 win at Barrington) was our worst effort of the season," said Mustangs coach Todd Hatfield. "And we knew that could spell disaster in this game.
"Shakira Hall (Bulldogs' standout) is one of the premier players in the state and fully capable of putting up 30 points if she's allowed to get going. For us to hold her to 8 while putting up 69 on the other side of the floor is a great effort. Now it's time to get back to work and handle our business in the Mid-Suburban East."
The Mustangs are tied for first with Prospect. Both teams are 3-0. Meadows hosts Wheeling on Saturday while Buffalo Grove visits Prospect.
