Woman killed in New Year’s Eve crash in Campton Hills
Campton Hills Police continued to investigate a crash that killed a 22-year-old woman from St. Charles early on New Year’s Eve.
Police were called to the 39W800 block of Campton Hills Road at 3:58 a.m. Saturday for a single-car accident with injuries, officials said.
Campton Hills police said a 2002 Saturn was westbound on Campton Hills Road when it left the roadway and hit a utility pole.
The impact caused severe damage to the vehicle and required the victim to be extracted from the car, according to police.
Julie E. Berls, 22, of the 800 block of Liberty Avenue, was pronounced dead at the scene by officials from the Fox River and Countryside Fire/Rescue District, police said.
The investigation is ongoing with the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team assisting Campton Hills police.
Although a specific cause for the crash has not yet been determined, the victim was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to police.
