Mount Prospect woman’s request deferred
The efforts of Mount Prospect resident Nanci Koschman to have a special prosecutor investigate her son’s death have been postponed until Jan. 4. During a hearing on Thursday morning, Chief Cook County Criminal Courts Judge Paul P. Biebel removed himself from the case, citing medical issues. A different judge will consider Koschman’s request at a hearing on Jan. 4, according to Locke Bowman, one of Koschman’s attorneys. Koschman’s son, David, died in 2004 after being punched outside a bar in Chicago. Since then, two investigations have ended with no charges being filed. Koschman believes the investigations were compromised because the man authorities say threw the punch is Richard J. “R.J.” Vanecko, a nephew of former Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley.
