Elgin bank robbery is man’s 4th this month, police say

A man described as a “serial bank robber” struck again Tuesday, this time in Elgin, marking his fourth heist this month, according to authorities.

The man walked into Elgin State Bank, 1001 S. Randall Road, just before the bank’s 5 p.m. closing time Tuesday and handed the teller a note. according to police.

After receiving the note, which the thief pulled from an inside pocket of his jacket, the 23-year-old teller immediately handed the man money from her drawer, according to a police report.

The FBI is handling the case.

On Dec. 5, the same man is believed to have robbed the First State Bank, 323 W. State St., in Geneva at roughly the same time of day, according to the FBI.

Just a day later, the same man robbed a Fifth Third Bank, 1500 N. Main St., in Wheaton, authorities said. During that robbery, the robber handed a teller a note that implied he had a gun and demanded money.

On Dec. 9, the man robbed the TCF Bank at 567 E. North Ave. in Glendale Heights, according to the FBI. He again implied he had a weapon during the robbery.

The robber is described as a black man between the ages of 18 and 24, 5-feet 11-inches to 6-feet 1-inch tall and approximately 150 pounds.

He did not wear a mask in any of the robberies.

During the latest robbery he was wearing a black leather coat with a black shirt underneath and blue jeans and had a thin goatee, according to Elgin police.
