Warren’s Conway crew too much for Mundelein
It was a case of one too many Conways for Mundelein’s liking on Thursday.
Senior twins Danny and Sean Conway combined with junior brother Matt to win the 200-yard medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay to help host Warren top the Mustangs 113-73 in a North Suburban Conference boys swimming dual meet featuring plenty of competitors likely to see the state finals at season’s end.
In the medley relay, Chad Church joined the Conways and swam the breaststroke leg as the foursome finished in 1:39.38; on the 400 free relay, Austin Salisbury rounded out the quartet as the Blue Devils won in 3:16.68.
The Conways made their marks individually as well. Danny won the 200 IM (1:54.58) and 500 free (4:37.73); Matt won the 100 fly (51.28) and 100 back (53.29) and Sean placed second in the 100 free and third in the 50 free. Church won the 100 breaststroke (1:00.94).
Mundelein got winning individual efforts from junior Connor Black in the 50 free (21.38) and 100 free (47.32), Bryan Wiener in the 200 free (1:53.40) and Theo Vergis in diving (181.75). The Mustangs’ 200 free relay of Black, Wiener, Matt Marcotte and Art Kasemets won in 1:29.37.
Stevenson d. Vernon Hills: The host Patriots earned a 150-36 win over the Cougars in North Suburban action.
Individual double winners for the Patriots were Nick Koto (200 free, 500 free), Langston Fitts (200 IM, 100 fly) and Chris Hodges (100 free, 100 breaststroke).
Stevenson’s James Lichtenstein edged VH’s Alex Zuniga 231.30-220.25 in a first-rate diving matchup.
