Cub Scouts help Marines collect Toys for Tots
Cub Scout Pack 140, out of Saint Mary Parish in Buffalo Grove, recently collected toys for the US Marine Corps Toys for Tots program.
Sergeant Drew Darry with the United States Marine Corp. spoke to the scouts about the history and purpose of the Toys for Tots program.
According to the program website and Sgt. Darry, the objectives of Toys for Tots are to help less fortunate children throughout the United States experience the joy of Christmas; to play an active role in the development of one of our nation's most valuable resources – our children; and to unite all members of local communities in a common cause for three months each year during the annual toy collection and distribution campaign.
Over the 62 years of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program, Marines have distributed more than 400 million toys to more than 188 million needy children.
The Scouts were also very interested in learning about Sgt. Darry's military career asking him many questions about where he has served, if he was ever in a helicopter or if he was ever on an aircraft carrier.
The Scouts collected four boxes of toys to donate to the toys for Tots Program.
