Naughton paces Elk Grove triumph

Elk Grove 56, Glenbrook North 46: Junior guard Kelly Naughton went for a season-high 21 points to help Elk Grove get past visiting Glenbrook North 56-46 in a nonconference game Saturday.

Naughton led all scorers and made 4 3-pointers, none more important than the rally-killer she made in the third quarter.

The Grenadiers (4-3) led 29-15 at the half, but Glenbrook North had closed to within 6 in the third before Naughton's 3-pointer turned things around.

"We needed to have somebody step up and make a shot, and she sure did," said Elk Grove coach Ryan Kirkorsky, who said Naughton's 7-assist, 4-rebound overall performance was a career best.

Junior forward Diamond Boyd had 19 points for Elk Grove and the Grens allowed Glenbrook North just one player to score in double figures.

Rolling Meadows 51, Wheaton North 49: Playing less than 24 hours after a Mid-Suburban East win over Buffalo Grove, the Mustangs pulled out a 2-point win on the road.

Alexis Glasgow chipped in 9 points and Ann Marie Lynch added 7 for the winners.

Prairie Ridge 40, Wheeling 37: Senior forward-guard Kellie Kuzmanic (11 points, 13 rebounds), freshman guard Hannah Dobrowski (9 points, 2 rebounds) and senior forward Leah Malsom (8 rebounds) led host Wheeling (1-7), which was without freshman point guard Deanna Kuzmanic, who injured her ankle in Tuesday's game against Barrington.

Marian Catholic 60, Maine West 34: Senior guard Amanda Hoye scored a game-high 18 points with 3 steals for the Warriors (1-7 and 0-5 in tourney) while sophomore forward and first-team all-tourney selection Brittany Collins added 10 points with 9 rebounds.

Hoye and Ashley Collins each grabbed 3 rebounds in the final game of the Maine West Tip-Off Classic.

"We played a good team (Marian Catholic is 4-2 and 4-1 in tourney)," said Maine West coach Derril Kipp, whose team trailed 11-9 at the quarter and 25-15 at half. "We just ran out of gas.

"The mistakes we make are always capitalized on by the team, and we make plenty."
