8 Dist. 211 student earn national writing awards

In order to encourage high school students in their writing and to publicly recognize some of the nation’s best student writers, the National Council of Teachers of English established the “Achievement Award in Writing.” This is the most prestigious national writers’ recognition for high school juniors.

With only 38 students from Illinois selected to receive this award in 2011-2012, High School District 211 is proud to announce that it had eight of those students: Abhiya Ahmed, Nicolette Bartolameolli and Ryan Erdmann from Palatine High School; Margarita Calangi and Joshua MacNeal-Young from Schaumburg High School; Emily Prescott and Rebecca Wight from William Fremd High School; and Connie Liou from James B. Conant High School.

These students were honored for their outstanding achievement by the District 211 board of education at its Nov. 10, meeting. Additional information on NCTE Achievement Awards in Writing is available at: http://www.ncte.org/awards/student/aa/results/2011.
