Glenbard South donates $432 to Humanitarian Service Project

Glenbard South High School donated $432 to help needy children create birthday memories in the Children's Birthday Project at the Humanitarian Service Project, which is located in Carol Stream. They have been making contributions to the HSP since 1990 through numerous food and toy drives, volunteer work, Christmas giving trees and donations to the charity's Children's Birthday Project.

Glenbard South High School is a four-year public high school located in Glen Ellyn. The school's mission is to prepare students to be productive citizens equipped to challenge the future as knowledgeable persons, critical thinkers, effective communicators, quality producers, collaborative workers, responsible individuals, and socially responsible citizens, as stated on the school's website.

The funds donated will be used for HSP's Children's Birthday Project which provides a needy child ages 3-11 with a 25-30 lb. Birthday Box. Each box contains 6 new books, 6-15 new toys, stuffed animals, one new game, various other gifts such as bubbles, card games, mini toys, school supplies, and a Party-in-a-Box filled with all the items necessary to have a birthday party. The family can pick up the child's birthday package the month of their birthday, and provides a memorable “Special Day” for an impoverished child in our community. A sponsorship for a child is only $54 and also includes gifts at Christmas-time and back-to-school supplies. In addition, the child's family also becomes eligible for the HSP's summer-time Feed the Kids Program. Glenbard South's donation will sponsor 8 needy children in the Dupage and Kane counties for an entire year.

About The Humanitarian Service Project:

HSP's mission is to alleviate the pain and suffering that poverty creates in seniors and children living in DuPage and Kane counties, Illinois. Last year during the Christmas Offering Project, 1,264 children received gifts and 150 impoverished families received three weeks of groceries, frozen meats, and fresh produce. With the Senior Citizen Project, HSP provides a monthly food delivery and secret pal gifts to 120 low-income seniors. The Children's Birthday Project reaches the youngest underprivileged, making birthdays and Christmas truly memorable occasions for 700 children. Feed the Kids provides 100 low-income families with groceries and fresh produce during the summer months. HSP conducts an annual school supplies drive that benefited a total of 2,000 children by giving supplies to the DuPage Back to School Fair and directly to schools and individual children.
