Kuzmanic sisters pace Wheeling

Well, sisters can be quite similar.

Senior Kellie Kuzmanic and her sister Deanna both scored 17 points to help the Wheeling girls basketball team to its first win of the season.

Coach Julissa Hernandez' Wildcats (1-4) received 4 3-pointers from Kellie, a senior and two from freshman Deanna, en route to a 52-42 triumph over Niles North in the fourth round of the Niles North tourney.

Senior forward Leah Malsom added 8 points for the Wildcats, who meet Johnsburg today.

Schaumburg 46, Rockford Boylan 37: The Saxons notched their second win in their own Thanksgiving tournament.

Senior forward Alyssa Saklak led the Saxons with a game-high 14 points, including a 3-pointer in the fourth quarter for her final points.

Junior guard Amanda Kelly chipped in 10 points, converting 6-of-6 free throws in the fourth quarter.

Carly Brossard added 7 points and Jenna Gerber 6 for the Saxons (2-4).

Marian Catholic 53, Hersey 34: Senior guard Corinne Busby (9 points) and junior forward Meg Cernigalia (8) were top scorers for Hersey (1-2) in the second-round game of the Maine West Tipoff Classic in Des Plaines.

Senior Jen Hall and Busby each had 3-pointers for the Huskies while junior senior Maggie Hogen pulled down 11 rebounds.

Crane 42, Maine West 29: Sophomore Brittany Collins collected 16 points and 8 rebounds for Maine West (0-3, 0-2) in the second-round game of the Maine West Tip-Off Classic.
