Culvers CEO Illustrates Entrepreneurial Spirit at GLMV Fall Business EXPO

Culver provided a look into the popular franchise along with some business advice to 200+ attendees at the event, sponsored by the Green Oaks, Libertyville, Mundelein (GLMV), and other area Chambers of Commerce. He emphasized the importance of hospitality, quality, cutting-edge menus, and community support, to keep customers happy and returning.

"Businesses should not cheapen their product,” Craig advised. "Be hospitable, make people feel at home, and mean it when you say thanks.”

In 1984, Craig, along with family members, co-founded the Wisconsin based franchise, known for its butter burgers and custard. Now, there are 442 restaurants in 19 states, seven in Lake County, including Libertyville and Mundelein.

In addition to great-tasting food, Craig said providing exceptional customer service is key to sales growth and building a successful reputation. “Your team reflects your business and yourself. They make customers smile."

A former McDonald's employee, Craig eventually returned to the family business, taught to him by his father, a risk-taker and entrepreneur. “Business leaders and entrepreneurs who want to, will find a way to make something happen,” he said.

A Taste Vendor at the EXPO, Chris Searles and team of the Libertyville Culver's, served up free samples of custard to visitors throughout the day. Tony & Ron Milazzo, who own four Culver's stores, including Mundelein's location were also present.

“We all can learn much from Craig's amazing story," noted EXPO Chair and vendor Jay Cash, Signs Now. "We truly appreciated his insight and experience of growing this successful family business."

"Craig's inspiring story really illustrates the entrepreneurial spirit," said EXPO Sponsor Jon Holsman, Comcast Business Services.

The EXPO further provided a networking venue for 70+ local Chamber members displaying a variety of products, services and resources targeted to other business.
