Men plead guilty to selling counterfeit DVDs in Hanover Park

Two men arrested on charges of selling counterfeit DVDs outside a Hanover Park store pleaded guilty and were sentenced to 24 months probation and six days in Cook County Jail.

Philemon Moody, of Schaumburg, and Harry Statam, of Streamwood, were charged with the class four felony of unlawful use of copywritten materials. The charges are punishable by one to three years in prison. Probation is also available.

Responding to a call last February about two suspicious men outside a store located on South Barrington Road, officers observed Moody and Statam approach patrons as they entered and exited. An undercover officer asked what they were doing and they told him they were selling DVDs for $5, prosecutors said at the defendants’ bond hearing earlier this year.

Charges against Moody, 53, were amended to a misdemeanor and he was ordered to pay $300 in fines. Statam, 54, was ordered to pay $900 in fines.
