Play by Hoffman Estates teacher to be performed

The Tesser Act Theatre Ensemble will perform a dramatic reading of the play, “The Lutwidge Canvass,” written by David Alex, a former math teacher at Hoffman Estates High School. Admission is free to the performance at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Vogelei Barn, 650 W. Higgins Road (northwest corner of Golf and Higgins roads, next to Woodfield Nissan). The Village of Hoffman Estates Arts Commission is the sponsor. This zany mystery takes place in 1939, and follows the adventures of Duncan Lutwidge and his wife, Alice, as they attempt to solve a murder. It features quick verbal repartee and clues left by a menagerie of characters, including a Russian spy, crusty police officers, a colorful art expert and the FBI. The staged reading with costumed characters previously appeared in several cities and at Hoffman Estates High School. Alex will attend the reading, and provide insights into the production and his writing. For information, call (847) 781-2606. No reservations are required, and light refreshments will be served.
