Vista CEO named among top women in health care

Waukegan, IL – Barbara J. Martin, President and Chief Executive Officer of Vista Health System, has been selected as one of the nation's top 56 women in hospital and health system leadership in an annual list created by Becker's Hospital Review, one of the most widely read publications for healthcare executives.

“It is a great honor to receive this recognition from one of the top journals in the healthcare industry that is seen regularly by all of my peers,” said Martin. “I am proud of what we've accomplished at Vista in recent years, and we have many more developments planned for the future.”

Vista Health System today is one of the fastest-growing healthcare systems in Illinois, an achievement directly related to Martin's leadership of Vista since 2006. Vista Health System is a network of two hospitals located in Waukegan – Vista Medical Center East and Vista Medical Center West – along with the Vista Surgery Center and the newly opened Vista Freestanding Emergency Center on Vista's

campus in Lindenhurst campus, plus several facilities for imaging and rehabilitative care.

Vista is an accredited Chest Pain Center, Level 2 Trauma Center, a Primary Stroke Center, the recipient of the Joint Commission Gold Seal of Approval for Hip & Knee Surgery, and recently was named as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence. Vista invested approximately $2 million in the daVinci SiTM Surgical System for the latest in minimally invasive, robotic-assisted surgery. A new

Wound Care Center and Same Day Surgery Center are expected to open at Vista East later this year, while a 40,000-square-foot Vista Medical Office Building is under construction on the Lindenhurst

campus and will open in early 2012.

Martin is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a board member of the Illinois Hospital Association. She earned both her Bachelor's degree in Nursing and an MBA from Lewis University in Romeoville. She has gained extensive experience in healthcare leadership at several major institutions: Vice President/Patient Service Operations, Temple University Health

System; System Vice President/Clinical Operations, Provena Health; Vice President, Hospital Operations & Ambulatory Services, Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center; Vice President, Patient Services/Chief Nursing Officer, Saint Margaret and Mercy Health Centers; and several leadership positions at Ingalls Memorial Hospital culminating as Director of Nursing.

Vista Health System is a network of two hospitals, Vista Medical Center East and Vista Medical Center West; a stand-alone same day surgery and treatment center; and several locations for imaging and patient therapy. Though the names have changed, Vista Medical Center East has served the community since 1891 and Vista Medical Center West has served the community since 1929.
