Mount Prospect 'Idol' winner Lee DeWyze dropped by label
It's the one elimination he couldn't avoid.
Lee DeWyze was dropped by his label last month, the Hollywood Reporter revealed Thursday morning.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter last week, newly appointed RCA Records CEO Peter Edge said the Mount Prospect native and Season 9 American Idol is no longer on the label.
It's hardly a surprise because DeWyze's debut album, "Live It Up" sold just over 168,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
That's the lowest figure ever for an "Idol" winner's first post-show album.
He continues to be managed by 19's management arm.
DeWyze seems to be taking the news in stride.
He thanked all his fans for their support via Twitter on Thursday and tweeted that he's headed to Nashville, where he said he's already working on new music with producer Rune Westberg. It seems that DeWyze, like many other Idols before him, may be contemplating a move to country.
He's also busy planning his wedding to model-actress Jonna Walsh.
