U.S. Army Sgt. Troy Garlock is ‘Hometown Hero’ for October

The Round Lake Area Exchange Club Hometown Hero Committee and sponsor, Consumers Credit Union, has announced U.S. Army Sgt. Troy Garlock as their October hero.

Garlock, a resident of Round Lake Heights and a 2004 Round Lake Area High School graduate, has served for seven years with Bravo Company 1-15th Infantry.

During his service, Garlock has been awarded many honors and awards, including: Army commendation medals (two), Achievement medals (three), Iraqi campaign medals (three), Global war on terror expeditionary medal, Global war on terror service medal, Army NCO professional development ribbon.

He will ship out to Korea soon. He is a section leader of Bradley Section headquarters as a senior gunner in the company.

Garlock also has been a supporter and volunteer for the Lake Zurich Lions.

He was registered for the award at the Round Lake Area Exchange Club’s site, www.rlaexchange.org/hero, by his mother, Denise Garlock of Lake Geneva, Wis.

Hometown Hero Project Chairwoman Sherry Ridge said Garlock’s “Hanging with the Heroes” care package will be filled with pretzels, cookies and fruit slice candies. Also included with the sponsorship of Consumers Credit Union are special requested items, such as sunscreen, razors, baking soda powder.

All “Hanging with the Heroes” care packages are delivered with a personalized “Hanging with the Heroes” T-shirt (donated by Artrageous of Hainesville), a piece of home and letters from Round Lake Area School District 116 students.

The club will present a plaque on behalf of the October Hometown Hero to his family at its Oct. 26 meeting at Panera Bread in Round Lake Beach at 7:30 a.m. It is open to the public.

Any and all military personnel serving overseas or in the USA from any of the Round Lake areas, Hainesville, Fox Lake or Ingleside qualify for the program. Five minutes will get them registered. If you have a neighbor, family member, friend, employee, employer, etc. serving in the military register them by going to www.rlaexchange.org/hero.
