Boys soccer / Lake County roundup

Claudio Guerrero, Carson Klarck, Arnaud Laroche-Bataille and Ibra Perez-Vera converted penalty kicks in a shootout, and goalkeeper Stevie Streeter stepped up to make a couple of clutch saves as Grayslake North’s soccer team edged Woodstock 2-1 in Fox Valley Conference Fox Division action Tuesday night.

It was Grayslake North’s first shootout of the season.

Coach Adam DeCaluwe said his Knights won the game thanks to Streeter’s 2 huge saves on Woodstock’s fourth and fifth shooters.

Woodstock led 1-0 at halftime, but Klarck netted the equalizer with a penalty-kick goal after he was tripped in the box.

“We played much more like the team we know we can be,” DeCaluwe said. “Unfortunately, we were missing that final touch for what should have been a much more comfortable game for us. In terms of possession, purpose and chances, we were the better team for a large majority of the game.

“We had only about five minutes in the early part of the first half in which we were uncertain and sitting back a little bit,” DeCaluwe continued, “and during that time Woodstock made us pay.”

Libertyville 2, Mundelein 0: Sam Kaplan and Joey Ruppert scored in the first half, and Zach Labrum (3 saves) and Craig Kym (2 saves) shared the shutout in the North Suburban Lake Division game.

Carlos Schultz assisted on Ruppert’s goal.

Libertyville improved to 12-2.
