High school gearing up for Mundelein Idol

Contestants are welcome to apply for slots in the fifth annual Mundelein Idol competition, set for Oct. 1 at Mundelein High School.

The event will begin at 7 p.m. in the school auditorium. Tickets cost $8 per person and include the voting package.

Sixteen contestants of any age or hometown will vie for prizes by performing songs of their choice. After the 16 perform, the audience will vote for their favorites, and the field will be narrowed to eight.

These semifinalists will then sing another selection, followed by a second audience vote. Three finalists will perform again, and the audience will select the winner.

The Mundelein High choral groups will perform between the rounds.

Several past Mundelein Idol winners have gone on to other musical successes. The 2008 winner, Shaeleigh Voitl of Bartlett, was featured on the Disney Channel. And the 2010 winner, Kenosha resident Angelica Puente, was a Top 16 singer on American Idol.

Interested contestants should visit the website, http://www.d120.org/activities/rz/sound/idol/default.aspx#/assets/1/mundelein_idol/Mlein_Idol_2009_082.jpg for a downloadable entry form.

They may also contact Choral Director John Neubauer at jneubauer1@d120.org for the forms and additional information.
