School News for Week of September 19
Elgin High School
On Saturday, a Parent University will be held from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the school. Registration begins at 8 a.m. The event targets parents of 9th grade students with classes on Computer Literacy, Improving Family Communication, Health for Your High School Student, and Elgin High School Support Systems. Breakfast will be prepared by the Clumsy Chef High School Restaurant and daycare will be provided. For further information, please contact Doug Johnson at 847-888-5100, x. 4857.
Streamwood High School
On Monday, as part of Homecoming Week, the Iron Sabre Quiz Bowl will be held at 4 p.m. This is a free event for all. Contestants will be competing in a battle of wits. This will be followed by an eating competition outside the gym. At 7 p.m., there will be a volleyball “smackdown”
in the main gym.
On Wednesday, a Powder Puff football game and Tug of War begins at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $3 ahead of time, and $5 per person at the door.
On Thursday, a pep rally will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Millennium Field, complete with a bonfire. Music will be provided by the marching band and student band.
On Friday, a pep assembly will be held at 1 p.m. at the school. Later that evening, the football games begin at 5:15 p.m. and again at 7:30 p.m. at Millennium Field.
On Saturday, Homecoming Week ends with a Dance at 7:30 p.m. in the school commons.
Bartlett Elementary
On Thursday, the annual Walk-a-Thon will take place during the school day. Grade levels will do 10 laps around the school to raise money for the school. While walking, there are various team mascots, band and other forms of entertainment based on a tropical theme.
Hawk Hollow Elementary
On Friday, the annual Walk-a-Thon will take place. Students will be walking at scheduled intervals during the day.
Lowrie Elementary
On Thursday, PBIS Family Night will take place from 6-7 p.m. at the school. Students will train their families and create a PBIS expectation chart in all areas of the school. Ice cream will be provided for families when they finish.
Washington Elementary
On Tuesday, “Parents go Back to School” will be held. At 9 a.m., parents will visit their child's classroom to take part in a literacy lesson. At 9:45 a.m., they will learn about the new U-46 report card.
