Consul General to be honored at Mexican Independence Day Celebration
Organizers of West Chicago's Mexican Independence Day Parade and Celebration were delighted to learn today that Chicago's Consul General of Mexico, Eduardo Arnal, will be a guest of honor at the City sponsored event on Sunday, September 18, 2011.
The Mexico City born diplomat was appointed by President Felipe Calderon and ratified by the Mexican Senate on March 24, 2011. Consul Arnal holds a degree in law from the Universidad del Pedregal in Mexico City. He will join Mayor Mike Kwasman and Father Matthew Nathan of St. Mary's Parish, on the Main Stage in downtown West Chicago for El Grito, the traditional bell-ringing which is a recreation of the Mexican patriot Miguel Hidalgo's ringing of the church bells that started the Revolution against Spain.
“The event, which literally has people dancing in the street, celebrates the historic occasion of Mexico's independence and provides an opportunity for the entire community to come out to celebrate the rich cultural gifts that are part of that history”, said Mayor Mike Kwasman.
Additional historical elements include a special exhibit presented by People Made Visible, Inc. at the Fox Community Center, 306 Main Street, focused on the southern-most country of North America and the vibrant culture that has traveled to West Chicago with its emigrants, plus authentic costuming, music and dance.
