Forest View High School 40th Reunion September 23-25

“Forest View, our Forest View, we will always remember you….” With their memories in hand, the FVHS class of 1971 will be gathering to reunite with former classmates the weekend of September 23-25 to celebrate their 40th high school reunion.

They came from Rolling Meadows, Arlington Heights, Mount Prospect and Des Plaines to their high school in Arlington Heights, which was opened by District 214 in 1962 as a result of a growing population in the northwest suburbs. The continued growth resulted in additional schools being built until the district enrollment peaked and then began to decline in the mid 1970's. With that decline ultimately came the end of Forest View as they knew it when it closed in 1986, and existing and future students began to attend Rolling Meadows, Prospect, and Elk Grove High Schools. Today it is known as the Forest View Educational Center and houses the district offices as well as three of its programs: Vanguard School for students not excelling in traditional high school placements, Forest View Alternative School for students with behavior related issues, and the Newcomer Center which helps immigrants learn English and better transition to one of the district's 6 high schools.

The class reunion committee is perhaps typical 21st century, all online, as the members live locally as well as in Georgia, Florida, North Carolina and Minnesota. As such, their outreach to their classmates has also been online. They have located email addresses for approximately half of their 600+ classmates and are hoping to find more through local media contact. The committee has planned several casual, inexpensive gatherings including a party at a classmate's home, a tour of the alma mater, and an evening at Westwood Tavern in Schaumburg. Classmates are encouraged to contact the committee at diana824@comcast.net for details and to register for the main event as soon as possible.

“….We'll remain forever true to our alma mater Forest View.”
