Probation for hitting cop

A McHenry man was placed on probation for 18 months after he admitted punching a Fox Lake police officer who had been sent to eject him from a bar. Daniel Wormley, 29, of 5500 block of Christine Avenue, was also ordered to write a letter of apology to the officer after pleading guilty to attempted aggravated battery in Lake County Circuit Court. Assistant State’s Attorney Steven Derue said police were called to Famous Freddies, 510 Park Ave., around 10 p.m. on Jan. 12 because Wormley was unruly and refused to leave. Wormley argued with police who arrived, and punched one in the face before running away. Police found Wormley’s jacket, containing his wallet and driver’s license, inside the bar and obtained a warrant for his arrest the next morning. Associate Judge Christopher Stride also ordered Wormley to pay a $500 fine and perform 150 hours of public service.
