Des Plaines Parks sets grand opening of Kylemore Greens Park Aug. 27

On Saturday, Aug. 27, from 10:30 a.m. to noon, the community is invited to join the Des Plaines Park District staff and Board of Commissioners to celebrate the grand re-opening of Kylemore Greens Park, at the corner of Kylemore Drive (Waterford Drive) and Carlow Drive, northeast of Wolf and Central roads.

The unveiling of the new park sign and the ribbon cutting will be at 10:45 a.m. The park district has planned basketball games, light refreshments and popcorn, free frisbees for the children, a craft, and fun for the whole family.

The redeveloped neighborhood park includes a new ADA accessible play area with two grade appropriate structures: one for children ages 2 to 5 years old and one for children ages 5 to 12.

They are designed to allow children of all abilities to play inclusively and imaginatively, provide an aerobic workout, and develop whole body strength. The safe and durable structures are built to last against sun, wind, snow, and rain, with minimal maintenance.

The new swing area, with both bucket and belt swings, is set on a wood fiber surface that is cushioned and absorbs impact. Both the swing and play areas are connected to the concrete walkway.

The park also includes a number of new improvements and features including an 18-foot diameter picnic shelter with a handicapped accessible picnic table; a sand play area with a sand scoop; new seating areas with benches and litter receptacles along the path; and a new half-court basketball court area.

“Kylemore Greens Park is now a destination for the neighborhood. The new playground and basketball court, as well as the open areas to fly frisbees and kites, make the park a great place for families to come together and play,” said Paul Cathey, Superintendent of Parks and Planning.
