Naperville man among injured in 290 crash

A Naperville man was airlifted from the scene of a crash that also injured two IDOT workers and caused major traffic delays Monday morning on I-290 near Addison, according to police.

All westbound lanes of the Eisenhower Expressway were shut down following the 10:47 a.m. accident just west of Route 83 as emergency crews responded and a Flight for Life helicopter landed on the highway.

Police said a 32-year-old Naperville man was driving a 2006 Dodge Caravan, which for an unknown reason veered onto the left shoulder and struck two IDOT trucks.

Illinois State Police Trooper Maria Navarro said the minivan first struck an arrow truck that was on the left shoulder, spun out of control and rammed into an IDOT vacuum truck.

The Naperville man was airlifted to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood with serious injuries. The driver of the arrow truck was taken to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village with nonlife-threatening injuries and the driver of the vacuum truck was treated at the scene and released, Navarro said.

Police said citations against the Naperville man are pending.

All lanes on I-290 were reopened at 1:30 p.m.
