  St. Charles firefighter Phil Kuhn gets a hug from his daughter Holly, 14, at St. Charles Fire Station #2 after they found out that she won an essay contest about what it means to have a firefighter as a parent. The contest, sponsored by Paul Davis Restoration, came with a $500 scholarship prize for the Kuhns. The final paragraph of her essay read “I love my dad and it makes me proud and grateful to say that my dad is a firefighter. Not only my dad, but all firefighters who risk everything on a daily basis for the community and the life of others.
