Cary Grove chamber to host Garden Walk

Submitted by Cary Grove Area Chamber

The Cary Grove Area Chamber of Commerce’s largest fundraiser of the year for is scholarship fund is the annual Garden Walk, a progressive meal, wine tasting and garden tour. This event has raised more than $20,000 in scholarship awards to local high school students through the years.

This year walk is scheduled for Saturday, June 25.

“Each year it is a pleasure to award scholarship monies to local students we hope will someday bring their skills back to benefit our community,” said Dorothy Miller of Lake Julian Trout Farm, a member of the Garden Walk Committee and a Chamber Ambassador.

“The Chamber Scholarship Fund is making an important investment in the future of our local business economy.”

This year’s stops on the tour include the homes of Tim Borth, Ed and Vonnie Check, Rick Dudek and Jannet Ting, all of Cary, and Jack and Alana Kraft of Barrington. Participants are bused to each stop to not only enjoy the gardens, food and refreshments, but also listen to live musicians at each home.

Tickets to the Garden Walk are $70 and include the entire progressive meal, wine tasting and bus transportation to each garden. Tickets can be purchased at the chamber office, 445 Park Ave. in Cary, or by calling the chamber office at (847) 639-2800. Seating is limited and the event generally sells out each year.

“This event is truly a success because of the overwhelming support we get from the restaurant community, which donates the spectacular food on our progressive dinner menu,” Miller said. “Their support has enabled us to continue to make these scholarship awards each year.”

The Garden Walk menu, which includes a variety of appetizers, salads and dinner, has been donated by such restaurants as Galati’s Pizza and Pasta, Chris Coach House, Orchard Prime Meats & Wine Shoppe, Tapas Calpe, The Clubhouse of Cary at Cary Country Club, Broken Oar, Brunch Café, Dominick’s Finer Foods, Ambrosia, Panera Bread, Wool Street Grill & Sports Bar and others.

The wine tasting is conducted by Nick Dominico of Orchard Prime Meats & Wine Shoppe, Tapas Calpe.

The Garden Walk Committee consists of Dorothy Miller of Lake Julian Trout Farm, Patsy Frits of Realty Executives on the Move, Kathie McLaughlin of American National Insurance — Davenport Agency, Judy O’Leary of V.M. O’Leary Sheet Metal and Heating, and Loree Rose of the Holiday Inn Crystal Lake.

Last year the Cary Grove Chamber awarded two $1,000 business scholarships to Jessica Gronset and Patrick Zito. For details on scholarship winners throughout the years, visit carygrovechamber.com.
