Stevenson Scholastic Bowl team finishes 4th in nation

The Stevenson High School Scholastic Bowl team finished fourth at two national tournaments recently. Stevenson finished fourth at the PACE (Partnership for Academic Competition Excellence) National Scholastic Championship held at Northwestern University on June 5, and was fourth at the National Academic Quiz Tournament's High School National Championship in Atlanta on May 29. In both cases, Stevenson's fourth-place finish marked the highest finish ever by an Illinois team at the event.

Kevin Malis, a member of the Class of 2011, was the top scorer at the PACE event, and made the tournament all-star team for the second consecutive year. He also was an all-tournament selection at the NAQT event for the second straight year, and finished 15th overall.

Other team members included June graduates Zach Blumenfeld, Jacob Rebnord, Mark Savin and Joe Schlude; and Class of 2012 members David Jin, Jonathon Kersky and Eugene Bulkin.

On June 11-12, Malis helped lead Team Illinois, a four-person all-star academic team, to a second-place finish at the HSAPQ (High School Academic Pyramid Questions) National Academic All-Star Tournament at the University of Maryland. Malis, a Team Illinois selection the last two years, finished eighth in the individual rankings, the highest of the state's representatives.
