Want to recycle old electronics?

Since 1999, the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County has provided electronics recycling programs for residents in its member communities.

Electronics is the largest growing part of our waste stream. To ensure convenient recycling opportunities are available, SWANCC is providing one-day collection events for residents to drop off electronics in addition to weekly drop-off locations at no cost.

Ÿ Saturday, June 18, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Mount Prospect Public Works Facility, 1700 W. Central Road.

Ÿ Saturday, July 23, 9 a.m.-noon, Evanston Civic Center, 2100 Ridge Ave. Also a document destruction event.

Ÿ Saturday, July 30, 9 a.m.-noon, Niles Public Services Department, 6849 Touhy Ave. Also a document destruction event.

Ÿ Saturday, Aug. 20, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Hoffman Estates Public Works Facility, 2305 Pembroke Ave. Also a document destruction event.

Ÿ Saturday, Sept. 10, 9 a.m.-noon, Glenview Public Works Facility, 1333 Shermer Road.

Ÿ Saturday, Sept. 24, 9 a.m.-noon, Siemens in Buffalo Grove, 920 Deerfield Parkway.

Ÿ Saturday, Oct. 1, 9 a.m.-noon, Rolling Meadows Public Works Facility, 3900 Berdnick St. Also a document destruction event.

Ÿ Saturday, Oct. 8, 9 a.m.-noon, Wheeling Public Works Facility, 77 W. Hintz Drive.

Under the new Electronics Products Recycling and Reuse Act, only the following items will be accepted: Computers, PCs and laptops; scanners; computer monitors; mobile phones; peripherals like mice, keyboards, zip drives; MP3 players; televisions; PDAs; printers; VHS players; fax machines; DVD players; video game consoles; DVR/cable boxes.

Electronics from businesses, institutions or schools will not be accepted.
