School of Dance Performs to a Sold Out Crowd

"Dance a Little Dream," the Des Plaines School of Dance year end concert, opened to a sold out crowd on June 12 in the Prairie Lakes Theatre, 515 E. Thacker Street. Over 400 dancers, ages 3-adult, performed twenty original pieces - an eclectic blend of jazz, tap, hip hop, ballet, lyrical, and modern numbers, at noon and 5:00pm. Highlights of the show included a Dad's Dance, the pre-pointe and pointe production of Coppelia, an alumni dance, featuring former graduates of the School of Dance, and performances by Artistry in Motion, the in-house dance company of the Des Plaines Park District.

The show is joyous, haunting, and dazzling, a celebration of form and technique, artistically expressed. Each piece is the choreographer's powerful interpretation of the theme, "Dancing is dreaming with your feet," with music, costuming, and special lighting effects designed to set the mood. The fast paced, lively show is full of fresh energy, miraculous movement, and a deep love of dance.

"Dance a Little Dream" will be performed next on June 18: the "B" show at noon and 5:00pm, and the "C" show at 2:30pm and 7:30pm. On June 19, the "D" show will be performed at noon and 5:00pm. Tickets are available now at the Administrative and Leisure Center, 2222 Birch Street, for $7, or at the door on the day of the shows, for $8.
