Campton Hills causes $450,000 damage

A fire at a Campton Hills home over the weekend caused $450,000 damage, but no one was injured and the fire does not appear to be suspicious, fire officials said Monday.

Firefighters were called to the 6N700 block of Herman Melville Lane at 6:26 a.m. Saturday and had the blaze under control by about 7:15 a.m.

The fire did an estimated $300,000 damage to the structure and $150,000 damage to the home’s contents.

Greg Benson, fire chief at the Fox River and Countryside Fire/Rescue District, said the Kane County Fire Investigation Task Force had been called into investigate because of the substantial loss in the fire, but as this point there was nothing to indicate it was suspicious.

No one was injured in the fire, Benson said.

“There’s damage to (the home), but it’s all very repairable,” Benson said.

Firefighters from Elgin, Elburn, South Elgin, Pingree Grove, Sugar Grove, Hampshire and Streamwood also assisted.
