Addison man dies in fireworks accident

A 47-year-old Addison area man was killed by a firework he lit Monday night, which also injured a number of other people, officials said.

Larry Pryzbyla of an unincorporated area of DuPage County near Addison was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:16 p.m., according to the DuPage County coroner's office.

Pryzbyla was lighting off fireworks in a parking lot in the 2300 block of Windsor Court behind residences when a firework exploded near the ground, killing him and injuring an unknown number of others, said Addison Fire Department Batallion Chief Scott Walker.

Police responded at around 7 p.m., according to an Addison Police Department statement.

Walker said the death was a direct cause of the fireworks, but could not go into details.

A coroner's office spokeswoman said the cause of death remained under investigation Tuesday evening.

Police refused to answer questions about the accident.
