Bond set in Woodstock murder case

A married couple from just outside Woodstock remained in custody Monday after being charged Sunday in connection with the murder of a Prairie Grove man who’s twice sought elected office.

Bond was set at $900,000 Monday morning for Timothy Smith, 26, of the 4300 block of Doty Road in unincorporated McHenry County, and at $50,000 for his wife Kimberly Smith, 28.

They had not posted bond as of early Monday afternoon and remained in the McHenry County Jail.

The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s office charged Timothy Smith with first-degree murder, aggravated discharge of a firearm, pimping and pandering.

Kimberly Smith was charged with two counts of obstructing justice, disorderly conduct and prostitution.

Kurt Milliman, 48, of Prairie Grove died at Centegra Woodstock Memorial Hospital late Saturday night shortly after police officers found him shot in the Smiths’ home.

Milliman, who unsuccessfully ran for a seat on the McHenry County Board in 2008 and for Prairie Grove village president in 2009, was the owner of the Dirty Hog Saloon in Island Lake.

McHenry County Sheriff’s police said an investigation found that Milliman solicited prostitution services from an ad the Smiths had posted on Craigslist.

Officers responded to a 911 call from one of the Smiths late Saturday who reported an “unwanted person” at their home, where they then found Milliman shot at about 11 p.m.

Police said Milliman still had vital signs when they arrived. He was immediately provided first aid and rushed to the hospital about a block away.

Authorities said the Smiths were cooperative at the scene and were taken into custody without incident.
