Neuqua avenges sweep to Waubonsie

Neuqua Valley 9, Waubonsie Valley 6:Avenging a three-game regular-season sweep at the hands of the Warriors (20-13), Neuqua Valley (24-10) advanced to the Class 4A Lockport regional final behind a 7-run third-inning. The third-seeded Wildcats will play Thursday#146;s winner between Lockport and Plainfield Central in Saturday#146;s regional final. Waubonsie Valley took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but the Wildcats took control in the third and added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth. Tanner Giesel went 2-for-3 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI while Ryan O#146;Keefe, who homered, and Andrew Skowronski drove in 2 runs apiece. Harry Vickers went 2-for-3 with a double and 4 RBI for Waubonsie Valley. Montini 5, Wheaton Academy 1:Mike Davis and Frank Montalto homered as the Broncos (18-13) upset top-seeded Wheaton Academy (20-9) in the Class 3A Glenbard South regional semifinals. Fourth-seeded Montini will play either Glenbard South or St. Francis in Saturday#146;s regional final. Complete-game winning pitcher Ben Dobosenski (6-4) struck out 10 and walked one for the Broncos, who scored 3 runs in the third inning and 2 runs in the top of the seventh.
