Boys volleyball/Fox Valley roundup

Elgin 2nd at Waukegan: The Elgin High boys volleyball team bounced back from a loss in its first match of the day to win four straight and place second at the Waukegan Invite. The Maroons fell to West Chicago 25-17, 25-12 but then beat IMSA (25-22, 23-25, 15-10), Waukegan (27-25, 25-19), St. Charles East (25-18, 25-23) and Antioch (25-18, 25-22).

Zasyya Oshana led the Maroons with 61 kills and 5 aces on the day. Matt Colima added 30 kills, 5 aces and 9 digs and was named to the all-tournament team. Omar Ceballos had 95 assists and 6 aces, Rejean Washington 12 kills and 7 blocks and Jose Gutierrez 11 blocks and 6 kills.

At Leyden: Streamwood tied for fourth place in the Leyden tournament, going 2-3 for the day. The Sabres lost to Wheeling 25-23, 25-16, Conant 25-23, 25-16 and Chicago Payton 25-20, 25-19 before coming back to beat Fenton 25-20, 25-19 and Leyden 21-25, 25-18, 17-16.

Nick Rice had 23 kills to lead the Maroons for the day. Kevin Rosas had 16 digs against Conant and 18 against Leyden and Phil Montero had 20 assists and 3 aces against Fenton.
