Jacobs welcomes victory

At times, the game got about as ugly as the weather — but Jacobs will take it.

The Golden Eagles broke open a close game in the late innings and cruised to a 9-3 Fox Valley Conference victory in Huntley on Tuesday.

Kara Arceneaux and Alyssa Lach had 2 hits apiece and Marissa Lombardo got the win in the circle for the Golden Eagles (11-10, 5-4).

The Eagles also took advantage of some defensive miscues by the Red Raiders in the cold, rainy conditions.

“I thought we hit the ball extremely well and played defense in situations where we needed to,” said Jacobs coach Jeremy Bauer. “We took advantage of a couple of errors on their part.”

Trailing 9-1 and down to their last out, the Red Raiders rallied.

Kelsey Hagan’s homer over the left-field fence drove in Brittany Koss to make it 9-3.

The Raiders put 2 more runners on base before Lombardo got out of the jam.

Jenna Teson opened the game with a triple. She scored on a single by Arceneaux, who eventually came around to make it 2-0.

Huntley got a run back in the second on Koss’ RBI double.

Jacobs opened some breathing room in the fifth with 3 runs on just 2 hits, then repeated the feat in the sixth.

Lach’s booming double was the big hit in the latter inning.

The Eagles added one more in the seventh on Tori Berg’s RBI single.

Jacobs played errorless ball while the Red Raiders committed 6 miscues.

Taylor Larson took the loss for Huntley.
