Antioch wins tourney: Antioch won the District 117 Softball Invitational by going 3-0 on the day.
The Sequoits, who got 2 home runs from Amber Myslewiec, posted wins over Lakes (8-4), Zion-Benton (4-2) and Johnsburg (9-2). Lakes placed third after Zion-Benton.
In Antioch’s win over Lakes, Katie Keefe had 2 hits while Myslewiec and Sage Keyes each had doubles. Meanwhile, pitcher Olivia Duehr struck out 9 batters and walked just 2 batters in going the distance.
For Lakes, Jamie Dykstra had a home run while Meghan Milewski had 3 hits, including a double, and Jasmine Rivera, Shannon Cooley (double), and Kim Olson each had 2 hits.
In Antioch’s win over Zion-Benton, Myslewiec went 3-for-3, including a 2-run home run over the left field fence. Duehr chipped in with 2 hits.
In Antioch’s win over Johnsburg, Myslewiec set the tone with a 3-run home run over the centerfield fence in the first inning. Katie Phillips chipped in with 2 hits for the Sequoits.
Libertyville 11, Waukegan 0 (5): The Wildcats rolled up 11 hits en route to a big nonconference victory.
Haley Hoeksel blasted a 2-run home run and Lauren Vogg nearly hit for the cycle, rolling up a single, double and triple. She also drove in 3 runs.
Danielle Kaczmar had 2 hits and Liv Wilcox added a double for the Wildcats.
Winning pitcher Emilie Teitz had 6 strikeouts in four innings while reliever Dana Kym closed out the game by recording three straight outs, including a strikeout for the final out.
Mundelein 12, Hersey 2: Mundelein rolled up 15 hits in cruising to victory.
Up 5-1 through three innings, the Mustangs got 4 hits, including a double, from Hillary Bunnelle and 3 hits from Justina Doll. Bunnelle also drove in 6 runs.
Bunnelle pitched the game and is now 5-5 on the season. She went all 7 innings and struck out six while walking just two.
LZ splits: Lake Zurich moved to 11-5 on the season after splitting its doubleheader with Elk Grove. The Bears lost the first game, 1-0 but came back to win the finale, 5-4.
In the first game, Kelly Neises went 3-for-3 with a double for Lake Zurich while pitcher Megan Mattera got the loss despite 12 strikeouts. She also gave up only 2 hits and 3 walks.
In the second game, Mattera was able to pitch again, this time getting the victory. She rolled up 6 strikeouts and gave up just 2 walks in moving her record to 9-5.
Mattera helped her cause at the plate, drilling 2 doubles. She had 3 hits on the day and came up with the game-winning hit in the bottom of the seventh. Neises, Maria Schroeder, Carlee Parsons and Tab Bohac each had 2 hits for the Bears. Parsons also had a double.
Carmel gets swept: Carmel dropped to 8-10 on the season with two losses to Providence Catholic, 6-2, 7-3.
