RMHS students, teachers spend at language immersion program

Rolling Meadows High School Spanish teachers Heidi Huck and Michelle Farfan and seven of their students attended a Spanish language immersion weekend at the Concordia Language Villages in Bemidji, Minn., in March.

The unique experience provides students the opportunity to use and further develop their Spanish skills throughout the enjoyable, fast-moving, activity-filled weekend.

“This was my fifth trip chaperoning our students and Michelle’s first to this language camp,” Huck said.

Participating RMHS Spanish students were: Seniors Andrew Bourke, Kayla Davis and Steven Pavlakis; juniors Jessie Bingaman, Mollie Christiansen and Jessica Wong; and sophomore Stephanie Ijaola.

For over 30 years, teachers from the Midwest and from as far away as Florida and Washington have brought large and small groups of students to the immersion weekends to enrich their students’ language learning.

Language and culture come to life through authentic games, arts, sports, traditions, music, food and native-speaking staff.

Teachers have the opportunity to communicate in their chosen language at a conversational level, exchange ideas with other language teachers, and learn how to integrate Village activities and games into their own classroom.
