Hoffman Estates named Tree City for 20th time as suburbs celebrate Arbor Day

As suburbs around the region celebrated Arbor Day Friday with tree plantings, Hoffman Estates announced that for the 20th consecutive year, the National Arbor Day Foundation has named the village a Tree City USA.

The National Arbor Day Foundation, in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service, sponsors the program. To become a Tree City, Hoffman Estates had to have a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, a comprehensive community forestry program and an Arbor Day observance.

The village's annual Arbor Day celebration was Friday, April 29, at Arbor Day Park.
