Student-built houses opening up for public to see

The public is invited to attend open houses for Palatine-Schaumburg Township High School District 211’s three student-built homes on Sunday, May 1.

During the past two school years, students from Fremd, Conant, Hoffman Estates and Schaumburg high schools worked on two houses in Palatine; and students from Hoffman Estates High School built a house in Inverness.

The district’s Building Trades Program is among the largest in Illinois. For more than 30 years, District 211 students have experienced all phases of the building process — from designing and constructing to decorating and landscaping.

“The Building Construction Program provides opportunities for lessons learned in academic classrooms to be applied to practical situations,” says Otis Price, director of career development, who oversees the program.

“The program allows application of knowledge and skills.”

Open houses will be held from 2-4 p.m. at the following locations:

Ÿ 747 Brockway, Palatine. Worked on by students from Schaumburg, Conant, and Hoffman Estates high schools.

Ÿ 743 Brockway, Palatine — students from Fremd and Conant high schools.

Ÿ 182 Bradwell, Inverness — students from Hoffman Estates High School.
