Maine West teachers put 'price' on their heads

Administrators, teachers and students at Maine West High School in Des Plaines volunteered to have their heads shaved Friday as part of a schoolwide fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.

Altogether, they raised an impressive $17,518 for ACS, and a lot of people have smart new ‘dos for spring.

Assistant Principal Dave Berendt agreed to lose his beloved beard if the school raised $500. For $1,500 he had his head shaved.

Dean Jim Dvorak agreed to have his head shaved for $1,000. And teachers Adam York, $1,000; Wil Greenwald, $1,000; Brent Shaphren, $1,500 and Jennifer Musich, $2,000 — they put their scalps on the line, too.
