LZ wins NSC title rematch with Antioch

Antioch’s softball team has defeated Lake Zurich in the North Suburban Conference championship game the last two years.

Lake Zurich got a little payback in the teams’ conference crossover Thursday, winning 5-2.

Maria Schroeder (triple, run scored), Alli McGinnis (double, 3 RBI, run) and Paige Goldberg (double, walk, run, RBI) each had 2 hits for the Bears, who improved to 8-3.

Megan Mattera went the distance in the circle for Lake Zurich, striking out 10, walking two and allowing 3 hits.

Olivia Duehr suffered the loss.

Fremd 6, Mundelein 0: Justina Doll doubled for the Mustangs (2-6), who managed only one other hit — a single by Hillary Bunnelle — in the nonconference game.

Deerfield 7, Vernon Hills 1: Jenn Claussen doubled twice for the Cougars in their nonconference loss. She also suffered the loss, despite allowing only 5 hits. She struck out five and walked six.
