Northwest roundup / Rolling Meadows comes back
Matt Hendricks seemed to be headed for more tough luck on the mound Thursday when Rolling Meadows hosted Glenbard North in a nonconference baseball game.
The junior right-hander had already suffered a tough no-decision to unbeaten York and gave up only 2 runs in a shutout loss to unbeaten Streamwood. Now he faced a 3-run deficit after 2½ innings to the highly-regarded Panthers.
But Hendricks was finally rewarded as Meadows (4-2) scored 3 runs in the third and 5 runs in the fourth en route to an 8-4 victory.
“We swung the bats pretty well after the first couple of innings,” said Meadows coach Jim Lindeman. “It was a good win. They’re usually one of the better teams we play.”
Hendricks (1-1) allowed 7 hits and 6 walks in 6 innings and had 4 strikeouts. Hendricks and Kyle Krzeski also had RBI doubles in the fourth.
Kevin Cwynar (3 hits) and Eric Lowe (2 hits) had RBI singles in the Meadows’ third. Singles by Tyler Gaedele, Mike Olson (2 hits) and Lowe set up the tiebreaking fourth.
Hendricks also doubled, tripled and had 5 RBI on Wednesday as Meadows beat Niles North 12-2 in 6 innings. Olson and Krzeski had 2 hits as sophomore Matt Dennis (2-0) had 7 strikeouts and 4 walks in 6 innings.
Leyden 7, Glenbard West 3: Justin Stawychny hit a grand slam for Leyden (6-0) in the West Suburban crossover victory. Eric Palmer and Nick Dimaso each had 2 hits and an RBI.
Carmel 7, Palatine 1: Kurt Becker had 2 of the 4 hits for host Palatine (6-6) and drove in its only run as its 5-game winning streak was snapped.
Glenbrook North 12, Buffalo Grove 1: Glenbrook North (8-1) scored 6 runs in the first inning of the five-inning victory. Tommy Ricciardi’s double was 1 of only 2 hits for Buffalo Grove (4-5).
