Pups and laughs at Canine Carnival
Barks and smiling faces filled Meineke Park on Saturday.
Schaumburg Park District's first-ever Canine Carnival welcomed pups and their humans to an afternoon filled with games, contests, and an agility course.
“Everyone had a blast,” said Meineke Recreation Center Manager Gwen Strombeck. “The dogs and their owners enjoyed a variety of games, especially the potato sack races.”
Humans in potato sacks and their dogs on leashes hopped across the park in a race for prizes. Laughter and muddy knees ensued.
Dogs also bobbed for hot dogs in pools, tried their luck at the agility course and played with new canine friends.
“This is awesome,” said Kim Carroll of Glen Ellyn. “We don't have a dog so I brought the kids to play with the dogs, and they are having a great time.”
Local vendors including Park-Wise Animal Hospital, Bark Busters and Greyhounds Only, Inc. educated visitors on man's best friend.
Events for dogs and their owners are held seasonally at the Schaumburg Park District. Yappy Hour, sponsored by Lynfred Winery, is set for June 24 at Meineke Park.
