Candidate promotes critical thinking
The Daily Herald expresses its opinion that District 211 candidate Roman Golash holds views that would be harmful to a student’s critical thinking. There can be no critical thinking when only one narrow ideological perspective is taught. What the opinion is saying is that formerly traditional American values are not politically correct and unworthy of discussion.
Academic revisionism is less discussion than inculcation. Words lose their meaning with liberal deconstruction and ideological redefinition. Patriotism, civic responsibility, self-responsibility and national pride are banished from the contemporary lexicon, having been replaced by a foreign language not previously spoken in American democracy.
We are losing our meaning as a people and nation. What Roman Golash brings to District 211 is the balance absent in the teaching of critical thinking. He has dedicated his life to serving our nation in the military, the military reserve, and now, as head of microbiology, in the Illinois Department of Health where one concern is bioterrorism and biological warfare.
This dedication is central to his desire for assuring that our young people are knowledgeable and intellectually prepared for constructive citizenship in shepherding our extraordinary nation into a safe and successful future.
Golash’s son is a student in Palatine High School, from which our daughters graduated two decades ago. I share his desire for assuring that our youth are both competently educated and well prepared for responsible citizenship.
