Chapman has true spirit of commitment
As a 33-year resident of Palatine, I am amazed at the amount of energy that goes into our local elections. From our local governing bodies to the park district board and school boards, I witness dedication, passion, commitment, and selflessness.
I have also seen cynicism, anger, deceit and selfish partisanship. This is evident in several published articles regarding decisions of the District 15 board, and their rancor astonishes me. These are largely non-reimbursed positions, requiring an incredible sacrifice of time and energy. Most do this from a spirit of volunteerism and altruism. Others, it is a means to advance a personal agenda or an avenue to vindictively “right” a perceived “wrong.”
I do not know every board member, and cannot speak to their personal reasons for candidacy. But I have had the privilege to know Mr. Jerry Chapman, whom I first knew of when working at Palatine High School in the 80s. Later we served on the board of The Bridge Youth Services, where I came to understand him for the person and leader he truly is. His commitment hails from a true spirit of volunteerism and altruism. Indeed, Jerry is the type of person who serves his community for all the right reasons.
During his time as board chairman, he demonstrated firm, efficient leadership skills while simultaneously remaining mindful, empathetic, and respectful of everyone’s ideas and opinions. The Bridge board consists of 20-plus diverse individuals and personalities, and as one would expect, disagreements occur.
Jerry proved adept at consistently achieving a consensus, and bringing the most relevant issues to the forefront. He always stood for the best interests of The Bridge as an organization. He is a person who has the passion and commitment required to better his community, and the experience to prove his dedication.
