Suburban hospitals trumpet rankings

Chicago area hospitals Tuesday were touting their rankings in new surveys by Thomson Reuters and U.S. News & World Report.

Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago was the big winner in both surveys. It was the top Chicago area hospital on the U.S. News list and was one of six in the country cited for highest performance and most improvement in the Thomson Reuters study of the 100 best hospitals in terms of patient outcomes.

Suburban hospitals making the Thomson Reuters list are Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge and NorthShore University Health System in Evanston, which both were both ranked in the top 15 major teaching hospitals in the country. Other suburban hospitals on the list are Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Edward Hospital in Naperville and Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet. The study is on the Internet at 100tophospitals.com.

Here’s the breakdown of suburban hospitals that made the U.S. News listing of top Chicago area hospitals:

Ÿ In seventh, Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village

Ÿ In eighth, St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates

Ÿ Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights and NorthShore Skokie Hospital in Skokie tied for 10th.

Ÿ Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove and NorthShore Evanston Hospital in Evanston tied for 13th.

Ÿ Advocate Lutheran General Hospital and Edward Hospital tied for 15th.
