St. Peter’s future scientists go to state

St. Peter School students take honors at Illinois Junior Academy of Science fair

Six eighth-grade students from St. Peter School in Geneva, under the direction of their teacher Marie Culliton, participated in the Illinois Junior Academy of Science District Science Fair on March 12.

The District Fair was held at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb with nearly 500 students in attendance.

Jessica Bullock and Samantha Passialis won high honors at the competition. Bullock, as well as Thomas Ridge, won the Naval Science Award and Medal for Outstanding Junior Level Science Fair Projects. Ridge also received “Best in Category” for Physics and Michael Kulisz received “Best in Category” for Health and Microbiology.

Additionally, Colin Sheehan, Kulisz and Ridge were selected for the 2011 Broadcom Masters Award, which is given to the top 10 percent of Science Fair participants.

Finally, Kulisz, Ridge, Sheehan and Jordan Zahn all qualified for the State Science Fair, which will be held at the University of Illinois on May 7.
